New at Links for Shrinks

You may have noticed that Links for Shrinks has slowly been upgrading and adding features to keep up with the enormous changes in healthcare and technology.  Since it's inception LFS has always worked to stay one step ahead of technology as it relates to mental health.  In the beginning that meant helping therapists navigate towards building a private practice website and ethical social media exposure.

Today we are embarking on new waters with the massive changes in healthcare and technology.  Some of you have been seeing phrases such as: mhealth, dhealth & ehealth.  all of these relate back to mobile health.  Currently, this is most prevalent in the medical world but I'm predicting within a short time "mobile mental health" will become something we all will be talking about and implementing.

In preparation, LFS is diving head first into these choppy waters.  We want to help you understand and ease into this transition.  Possibly the greatest one the mental health field has ever seen.  In the coming months you will see fresh content related to how "mobile mental health" will effect you in your practice.

We have started by curating content from around the world to help you stay in the know of current and future trends. You can see on our home page what we are linking too.  We are using a vibrant and rich curating tool called "Tint up" to display all of our social media activity.  Not only is it beautiful to look at but allows you to see "tweeting" as art & information rather then just chaos. Please spend some time on our Tint up board.  Start on what you're drawn too first.  Use it to introduce yourself to the world of mobile mental health.

We have also added a feature called "The Daily App."  These are innovative mental health related apps that are specifically for clients and clinicians.  This is another area of mobile mental health.  Get ready as now they are just an after thought in your practice.  But, within the next few years they will become a staple. Currently, there is virtually no regulations attached to apps so buyer beware.  This too shall change as these apps will become more and more sophisticated.

My hope is that LFS can offer you a gentle entrance into this virtual wild west of mental health and technology.

The It Gets Better Project

In response to all of the bullying and teen suicides, especially among Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender youth, Dan Savage and his partner Terry started this great resource.  "It gets better" video's and posts are springing up all over YouTube and in blogs across the internet.  This video project has become viral and it's aim is to tell those most vulnerable and struggling that they are not alone and that it does get better.  Please help by sharing this incredibly important video!

Many Celebrities have also gotten involved.  Here is a video post by Good Charlotte's Joel Madden:

Free Webinar for Therapists: Get Listed in Google Local Business Center

How to Get Listed in Google Local Business Center

Getting listed in the Google Local Business Center is probably the singular most important thing that therapists can do to increase their visibility online and get new client referrals.  There are over half a billion searches on Google per month for local businesses (for example: "Therapist Los Angeles).  If you are serious about getting more clients from the internet, then you need the skills you will learn by watching this exclusive webinar from MyTherapistMatch.com.  Duration: 15:20.

This webinar is being presented by MyTherapistMatch.com.
Better than any online directory, MyTherapistMatch.com matches you with motivated clients based on personality type, communication preferences and therapy issue of concern.
Therapists on the site are getting an average of 30 exposures to perspective clients per month.
For a limited time only, you can become a member of MyTherapistMatch.com for $4.99. For more information, you can visit their site: www.MyTherapistMatch.com.

This event is sponsered by MyTherapistMatch.com

Will we Soon be "Renting" our CEU Courses on YouTube?

Image representing YouTube as depicted in Crun...Image via CrunchBase

I just read Chris Crum's post YouTube Getting Serious About This Video Rental Thing and my mind went into forward thinking mode! You Tube has recently started to dabble in the video rentals. Although it's limited to a few channels and films the talk is that they will open up rentals to all content.

What does this mean for therapists? Well, I know that some members on LFS have used You Tube for some time to create valuable content. Short teaching segments such as private practice building techniques seem to be the most popular way that therapists have entered the You Tube world.

Charging for content may or may not be a double edged sword. On the one hand wouldn't it be great to get some compensation for the hard work it takes to put one of these segments together. Yet, on the other hand, will people actually pay for something traditionally they have gotten for free? Possible solution: what about offering CEU's?

Last month I bought my first Roku player. For those of you trying to keep up right now, a Roku is a device that let's you stream videos from the internet on your television. Currently you can play movies from Netflix and Amazon. I'm wondering how long it will be before I am sitting in my pajamas watching a CEU course on my big HDTV!
